One of the things I’m learning as I get older is that life is a marathon not a sprint. Not everything has to be done right NOW. I’m learning this waaay more slowly than I wish I was but every time I apply it, I always think “Come on dummy, see how much better that was? Why don’t you do it all the time?” What can I say; I’m a work in progress.
Here’s what I’ve learned so far about seeing your life as a marathon:
- You’ll make better decisions
- You’ll live your life at a more sustainable pace
- You’ll worry less
- You’ll try to do God’s job less often
- Small stuff won’t bother you as much.
- You’ll spend your money more wisely
- You’ll invest your life differently
- You’ll live out a famous quote, “Today is mine, tomorrow is none of my business.”
- You’ll learn to love the journey more than the destination
- You’ll actually accomplish more
Maybe this is a bible verse you need write down, memorize, do whatever it takes to keep it in front of you so you won’t forget about the marathon:
“Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.” Proverbs 19:2
