Any idea what 168 stands for? It’s the number of hours in every week. What I’ve been focusing on a lot lately is that number doesn’t change for anybody. It’s the same for every man. Think about that. Whether you’re a success or zero, everybody has the same amount of time. Now that’s what you I call a level playing field.
Bill Gates has always had a 168 hours per week. Steve Jobs? 168. Nick Saban has the same 168 hours to figure out how to win football games as the coach of the team who didn’t win a game.
So what’s the difference? Bill, Steve, and Nick all use every one of their 168 hours and the rest of us don’t. These guys have figured out how to get more done in their 168 hours. Somehow, they are able to squeeze more out of their weeks than I do.
That’s what I’m focusing a lot on these days, how can I use my time better than I have ever have. I don’t have all the answers but here are few things I’m doing that working:
Develop Life Priorities.
Fortunately I’ve had the opportunity to do a bunch of cool things in life but it finally dawned on me that I can’t do it all. That means I have choose just a few things to focus on. I think the most things any man can focus on is 7 but right now I’ve only got 6 on my list and I’m pretty busy.
The big thing having my life priorities WRITTEN DOWN does for me is it helps me say “No”. If you struggle with saying no, this one is for you.
Daily/Master Task List
The other thing I’ve been doing is to keep both a daily and master task list. The master list is all of the home repair improvement projects, trips to take as a family, and even some “bucket list” stuff. There is probably 50 items on this list while I restrict the daily list to no more than 10. This is stuff like bills to be paid, stuff to do at work, etc. The big thing having these two lists does is makes sure I always have something to do which helps me not waste time sitting in front of the tv or mindlessly surfing the web.
I’m curious what some of you do to spend your 168 hours more efficiently?
