Dance Like Nobody’s Watching

If you’re a country music fan, you’ll recognize the name Darrius Rucker, if you’re not you might know the little band he used to front, Ho0tie and the Blowfish. Anyway, Darrius has a great tune on his last record, “While I Still Got The Time”, that has the following line “I’m gonna dance like nobody’s watching”.

Think about that. Is there anything that strikes as much fear into the average guy than dancing in public? Sure we can pull of a slow dance that only requires us to shuffle our feet for three and a half minutes, but anything more and most guys would choose a prostate exam instead.

Why is that? Is it because guys have no rhythm? Nope? Is it because men are just fun suckers? Nope (well MOST of the time). Then why? I believe it’s because no guy wants to look foolish. No guy wants to think other people are laughing at him. I know I don’t. I still remember when a girl laughed at my skinny legs in fifth grade (don’t worry Karole, I forgive you!).

It took me a while to learn this is not a good way to live. Why? Because if you’re not willing to look foolish then you’re not willing to try something new. Which means you’re not willing to fail and THAT means you’ll never grow as a man. Occasionally looking foolish is part of the learning process. Don’t be afraid to fail, if you are, then there’s a long list of stuff you’ll never learn.

Learn to fearlessly attack new stuff like you would dancing like nobody’s watching!
