#18-Break the Cycle: 3 Non-Negotiable Rules to Dodge Poverty

Provider is one of the Big 3 roles for men, the other two being Protector and Leader, that’s why every man should understand how to keep himself—and the people who depend on him—out of poverty.

So how does a guy avoid falling into poverty? Turns out it’s not that complicated. The Brookings Institution, a non-partisan think-tank, did a large study and discovered you can avoid poverty by following 3 rules:

1. Graduate from high school.

2. Wait to get married until after age 21 and don’t have children until you’re married.

3. Have a full-time job.

The study found that men who followed those three rules faced only a 2% chance of falling into poverty. And as a bonus, you’ll have a 74% of being in the middle class.

The study shows it’s time to stop the false narrative that there are no more opportunities in America. Instead we need to focus on the role personal decisions have on staying out of the poorhouse. Some guys may call the values of hard work, perseverance and delaying gratification old-fashioned  but they are the cornerstones of success, no matter who you are.

Guys, it doesn’t matter where you came from, how many parents were or weren’t in your home, how pathetic your public school was or any of the other life factors that were out of your control, you can break the cycle! Poverty isn’t your destiny unless you choose that path.
